About UberSquare
At the end of 2004, my wife and I were in the process of selling our townhouse. We wanted to sell our townhouse by ourselves but it was obvious that we needed professional help on various matters such as legal advices and hardwood floor repair. Having not worked with any lawyers and hardware floor repair companies, we asked our friends and relatives for referrals. We got a referral for a real estate lawyer but we were on our own for finding a professional hardware floor repairman. We eventually turned to the yellow pages. Needless to say, it was very time consuming and difficult to find someone who was trustworthy, reputable, and competent to do the repair. There has to be a better way to find a qualified service provider!
Last century
Finding a local, qualified, and reputable service provider that doesn't cost us an arm and a leg isn't easy. It's great when we have referrals from friends or relatives. Otherwise, it's very likely that we cross our fingers and hope for the best when we hire someone we don't know. What we need is to be able to see the history of the prospective professionals so we'll have a high level of confidence in the quality of their work. What we also need is to have an easy way to connect with perspective professionals. We certainly don't want to screen and talk to each professional in the list of our yellow pages. That is so last century!
UberSquare aims to solve the problem by providing a venue for consumers to connect with service providers. To find a qualified service provider, a consumer creates a posting on UberSquare with a project description. A prospective service provider can then initiate contact by making a project proposal on UberSquare that includes the price and how he or she plans to do the work. Both parties can further learn about each other(e.g. see the user reputation and history) and negotiate by using the tools provided on the site. Each project may receive multiple proposals and thus a consumer looking for service may have choices at his or her fingertips. UberSquare uses documented user feedbacks and project history to help both consumers and service providers make better informed decisions.
We really hope that through UberSquare, consumers will receive high quality services at affordable prices while service providers will gain access to a continuous stream of work.
